I photographed and interviewed people in their twenties living with chronic illnesses. The interviews became a sound installation accompanying the portraits, allowing each person to describe in their own words how illness affects their body, identity, relationships, and everyday life.

Chronic illness can be deeply life-defining, yet it often remains invisible, particularly in young adults, who are generally assumed to be healthy, energetic, and carefree. This disconnect can create an additional sense of isolation, as the physical and emotional weight they carry is not always recognised by others. By bringing their portraits and voices together, the work creates space for experiences that are often overlooked, while resisting the idea that a person can be fully understood through their visible appearance.
